7 day Cultural Tour in Puglia 2018
Day 1: Arrival at Bari/ Brindisi airport and meeting with
the guide. Visit to the ancient city: the Basilica of San Nicola
with its monumental crypt where the Saint's relics are kept,
the Romanesque Cathedral of San Sabino, the Norman
Castle and the nineteenth-century village "murattiano".
Free lunch in the city centre. Transfer to the Itria Valley,
hotel accommodation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Breakfast and departure for Matera. Stop in
Altamura and visit to an old oven where it produces the
Altamura bread. Continue to Matera and lunch in a typical
local restaurant. In the afternoon visit the city of the Sassi,
UNESCO Heritage, European Capital of Culture 2019 and
the film set of masterpieces such as "The Passion of the
Christ" by Mel Gibson's Oscar award. Guided tour of the
quaint old town of narrow streets, churches and
picturesque landscapes on rocky “gravine”. In the evening
return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Breakfast and tour of the Itria Valley. Guided tour
of Alberobello and its Trulli declared a World Heritage site
by UNESCO. Walk in the only historical centre in the world
consists entirely of Trulli, ancient circular buildings with a
funnel-shaped roof toppled. Visit of Martina Franca and its

Day 5: Breakfast and departure to Gallipoli. Visit to the
old town, once an island, now connected to the mainland
by a sixteenth-century bridge. Visit to the Cathedral of
Sant'Agata, an authentic art gallery, the Hypogeum mill,
the Church of Purity, etc. Traditional seafood lunch. In the
afternoon visit to the old town of Nardò, the second
largest city of Lecce district, in size and population, very
active from a cultural point of view.
In the evening return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: Breakfast and departure to Acaya. Visit to
the walled city, a rare example of Renaissance military
architecture still intact. Continue to Otranto, the
easternmost city of Italy. Visit to the old town and the
Cathedral of Santa Maria Annunziata that still
preserves a magnificent floor mosaic representing the
Tree of Life. Lunch in an historic mansion surrounded
by olive trees. In the afternoon transfer to Santa Maria
di Leuca, stroll along the promenade lined with an
eclectic range of elegant villas of the early '900.
Alternatively (depending on weather conditions)
boat trip to visit the caves.
In the evening return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7: Breakfast. Morning and lunch at leisure. In the
afternoon transfer to the Greek Salento, located in the
hinterland and that includes several villages such as:
Martignano, Sternatia, Calimera, Melpignano, etc. The
special feature of this centre is the presence of an ancient
cultural tradition of Byzantine origin, handed down today,
